Never underestimate the power of the right question at the right time to change your world.
The ultimate question is “what’s the right question!?”
In this post, I’m going to share with you three questions that have changed my life.
Think about it. A single question that unblocks your thinking will change, at first, your day but then your week, and then your year. But you cannot get the answers/outcomes you need unless you ask the right question. Sounds obvious, but few take the time to consider it.
What do I mean by the right question?
Well, let’s say you have interpersonal trouble with a colleague. You may ask “Why does this person not like me?” You might come up with a bunch of reasons as to why they don’t like you and you may choose to defend yourself, argue or refute the reasons. But if you ask “What is going on in THEIR life”, you may gain insights that change the very nature of your relationship. By choosing to understand someone else’s point of view you may give yourself a chance to TRANSFORM.
Or let’s say you have a job you don’t like. You may be asking (unconsciously) how can I just get through this day/week/year without getting fired or made redundant. But if you stopped to ask, “What are my core strengths and how do I bring them all together to maximise my contribution (and salary!)”, well that’s a different ball game with two very different outcomes.
One is a constricted fearful feeling of wasting your life, the other is empowered, inspired, and excited for the future.
So what are the three questions that changed my life?
Well let me start by with a story: it’s the story of Yu.
Yu is someone who has HEAPS of ideas. Almost, every day there is another project or concept they want to jump on. They race off each time drawing up plans or researching ideas. They’re entrepreneurial and intend on becoming super-wealthy. Though they currently lack the financial security to keep their bills paid “it doesn’t matter” because every idea is a BILLION dollar idea, it just needs the time. But sadly, they never go anywhere.
WHY?
Because Yu never talks the time to think logically about their timelines or to put things in order. Rather than delay gratification of Netflix, Instagram or YouTube, they fall into the trap of social media damaging their ability to concentrate or make any long-term progress. They’re terrified of commitment and doing the deep work. Ultimately, they have no game plan and are scattered. They have no ability to discern what is relevant and what is a distraction because it all feels “important”. Yu is skating on thin ice.
OUCH.
And it doesn’t have to be like that.
The questions (in fact, question sets) I offer you today would help Yu too. They are what I use every day to help me to gain maximum clarity, be more focused, more productive, and MORE HAPPY! They are game-changing, so give them a try today.
1. What’s my life vision? Remind yourself by reading it or looking at your visualisations. (It’s SO important to know with detail where you are trying to get to.)
2. What is the single most important thing I need to do today to take me closer to my life vision? (Then I ALWAYS START with that task. Maybe it’s paying the bills, maybe it’s having a difficult conversation, maybe it something boring or maybe it’s scary, but you must know what this is.)
3. Now I know what I need to do, what is holding me back from doing it? Is it A) fear or B) lack of knowledge?
A) For FEAR: what can I do to mitigate the scary things from happening, if the worst DOES still happens what plans could I make NOW to recover, AND if I overcome my fears, what do I stand to gain?
B) For LACK OF KNOWLEDGE: Where can I find trusted information to get me ahead? Who do I know who has been here before? Is there an expert I can ask to become a mentor?
Follow these questions EVERYDAY and you will cut to the core of why you are here and fast track your dreams.
Life is short. Don’t hold back. Good luck.
